July 17 (73 days old): A few of the things that I have to be thankful for! Words cannot describe the satisfaction that I feel at this point in the breeding process. All the planning, hard work, sleepless nights, laundry, nail trimming, bathing, feeding, socializing, newspaper changing, etc., etc., etc., has paid off. I have successfully whelped, raised and placed this litter of Belgian Sheepdog puppies. Well, almost....Miss Pink will be joining her new family tomorrow, July 18, and Miss White is still waiting for the right home that will help her realize her full potential as a conformation and obedience/agility/herding/tracking/and??? dog. (But, the longer I have her, the more I like her and the greater the chance that she just might stay here permanently!!!) So, as I write this, I still have three little darlings in the household while the other six have already wormed their way into their new owners' hearts. I am so thankful that each of these puppies has gone to wonderful homes and loving families. I could not be more pleased with my good fortune in being "found" by these people! And I am so happy that every family is so happy with their new addition! (Not that the puppies are perfect, by any means! I get reports about Miss Purple biting Alyssa in the butt and Mr. Silver doing a little digging and Mr. Dark Blue barking obnoxiously when he wants attention. And Miss Pink!!! I've told her new owner to be prepared for a puppy that absolutely LOVES WATER and insists on swimming in water bowls...but that's what puppy hood is all about...and that's part of the fun and challenge of raising a new puppy!) All of the puppies are social and outgoing, cocky and confident. They are healthy and strong. Their ears are up and their bites are good. They are learning to sleep through the night in their crates and they all have good appetites. At this point in their young lives, they are all I had hoped they would be -- and more. Thanks so much to everyone who helped with the whelping and raising of these puppies, especially my midwives, Monica Miller and Cathy Horrocks, and puppy sitter extraordinaire, Katrina Tustin. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Spring Glen Veterinary Hospital in Renton, especially Dr. Deb Thomas, DVM, and Dr. Melinda Cumming, DVM PhD. Thanks to everyone who came to the house to hold and cuddle and socialize the puppies from day one. But, the biggest thank you of all goes to Annette Sullivan, for having the confidence in Keeper (and me) to allow me to breed to Baccarre'. |
