June 9 (35 days old):

Saturday afternoon turned out to be quite nice, so I had the opportunity to take lots of photos.   As you can see, the puppies are in their tug-of-war phase.   They are chewing, pulling and tugging on anything they can get their mouths on, from shoelaces to shirts, hair and camera bags.   Photos are in no particular order...hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I did taking them!   I can't believe it's been FIVE WEEKS!!!

Red Hiding 06 05 01.JPG (177953 bytes)    06 05 01 A.JPG (107022 bytes)

It's been two days since the photos above were taken and I'm just now getting a chance to post this!   Things have been hectic, to say the least.   On June 5 the puppies went to the Renton training center for a visit.   Cathy Horrocks had a break between her classes, so she set up some x-pens and sprayed disinfectant for us.   To make their first outing a pleasant experience, Keeper went in the x-pen first, so when the pups' crate doors were opened, there was mom!   It only took a couple of minutes for the puppies to decide they wanted to explore the WHOLE building, so off they went.   Unfortunately the lighting wasn't the best, so some photos turned out better than others.

The photo on the left is of Red girl.   At one point we "lost" her, and after some searching we found her napping on a pile of stuffed toys, back behind a basket of other toys.    Cathy and I tried to get photos of puppies moving, without much success.   The best photo is above on the right, and I don't even know which puppy that was!     We did get some individual photos that turned out okay...you can see them by clicking here.

We stayed at the training center for about an hour (until the puppies crashed).   They had so much fun exploring, wandering into the agility tunnels, pulling long lines out of the equipment basket and generally squeezing themselves into every nook and cranny they could find.

Everyone did great on their first "long" road trip, which lasted about 2-1/2 hours roundtrip (that included a grocery story stop).   I am very pleased with every puppy in the litter...they are all maturing nicely and their little personalities are starting to come out.   So many of them are so uppity -- exactly what I like to see in puppies this age!

June 4 was my first evening back to teaching after 5 weeks off.   Monica Miller puppy sat and had a great time (or so she says!).   June 6 was my first full day of teaching in Kirkland, so Cathy Horrocks puppy sat from 9 am to 4 pm and then Katrina Tustin took over until I got home about 10:30 pm.   They were so wonderful...they even did puppy laundry while I was gone!   And I came home to tired puppies!   Yessss!!!!

However, there was a certain someone whose nose was quite bent out of shape -- Keeper!    She was mad because she didn't get to go to dog class...she had to stay home with the puppies!!!    Cathy got the cold shoulder most of the time she was at the house, but Katrina was able to break the ice a little.   Keeper was quite happy to see me when I got home, but she actually gave me the cold shoulder for a while the next morning.   Several sessions of frisbee play and all is forgiven!

The puppies' outdoor areas expanded today, so they got to spend quite a bit of time playing outside.   If the weather cooperates, I'll take outdoor photos tomorrow.   So much fun...but so MUCH WORK!!!   Why has it been 13 years since my last litter of puppies?   Oh yes, it's all coming back to me!

June 3 (29 days old):

We took our second road trip today (photos above).   Keeper's in her elevated crate (on a platform) so she can look down on her brood, in their little crates lined up side-by-side in the van.   Everyone did great, once again, as we ran errands for about 30 minutes.

When we got home, everyone had lunch, followed by a play session (above).  Red girl's in the frisbee and Silver boy is on the right, chewing on the spider.

Then Lt. Blue boy fell asleep on the grooming table (above).   When I tried to get him to look at the camera, he lifted his head but couldn't open his eyes!   I introduce my puppies to the grooming table by laying it flat on the floor so they can climb on it and play on it.   Today it appeared in their living room x-pen, and everyone had fun with this newest obstacle.   Phone books make another great puppy obstacle...we put those in the hallway and everyone enjoys climbing over them as they scamper from the whelping room to the living room.

Keeper is still nursing a few times a day, and making sure everyone is good and clean.   Grandpa Tyler got to meet his grandkids today.  At first he was quite excited by the prospect, and then he realized just how many of them there were.   He's very gentle with puppies, but did give a low warning growl when they thought about trying to nurse on him!

Journey met the puppies through the x-pen and he was so excited his entire butt was wiggling.   It's going to be quite hilarious when I finally allow him to get together with the puppies.   Ashley got to see the puppies through the x-pen, but she is so old and senile I doubt that I'll ever be able to trust her with them.   (She has a very short fuse these days!)   Keeper certainly doesn't trust Ashley...she was ready to pounce on her to protect her kids if the baby gate came down.
